  La region active de Hveravellir est situe au Kjalvegur entre les glaciers des Langjökull et Hofsjökull. L’image montre la station météorologique qui est occupée toute l’année. Les vapeurs à gauche viennent des sources chaudes. Un remarquable coude de pluie causé par des vapeurs à droite de la station météorologique est causé par une nouvelle zone active au nord-est de la station. Cinq ans plus tard (1999) cette activité a été completement disparue.

  The active area Hveravellir is located betwen the two glaciers Langjökull and Hofsjökull at the Kjalvegur in the high lands of Iceland.
  The photo shows the weather station at Hveravellir. The steam clouds on the left in the photo originate at hot springs nearby. Note the rainbow on the right of the building. In 1999, five years after this photo was taken, no trace of this activity could be observed anymore.
  The sheep seem to like the warm environment and are not disturbed by the steam. (...)

  Das aktive Gebiet Hveravellir liegt am Kjalvegur im Hochland von Island zwischen den Gletschern Langjökull und Hofsjökull. Im Bild ist die ganzjährig besetzte Wetterstation zu sehen. Die Dampfschwaden links im Bild stammen von heissen Quellen. Bemerkenswert ist der durch Dampfschwaden verursachte Regenbogen rechts im Bild, der durch neue Aktivität nordöstlich der Wetterstation verursacht wird. Fünf Jahre später (1999) war von dieser Aktivität allerdings bereits nichts mehr zu bemerken.
